COVID and China: a case filed against Beijing
  • Chinese President Xi Jinping
    Chinese President Xi Jinping
Anger against China is growing in Europe and in the West in general, and growing fast: because of the virus, and because of the insulting insinuations and the even more insulting propagaganda. China, according to many, should be held responsible for the pandemic and pay a sort of 'war damages' for it. And somebody, in US, has gone further. A case has been in fact filed before the International Criminal Court for “Crimes against humanity and genocide by development of outlawed biological werfare weapons by the People's Republic of China. It is: “a complaint for the opening of an inquiry by the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court under Article 15 of the Rome Treaty to investigate the urgent and important question of the likely creation and release, accidental or otherwise, of a variation of coronavirus known as COVID-19 by the People's Republic of China and its agencies and officials and functionaries as a biological weapon in violation of China's agreements under international treaties,1 and the subsequent reckless and criminal release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology into the city of Wuhan, China, in Hubei Province”. The complain, filed by the american Freedom Watch, Inc, a right-wing no-profit organization founded in 2004 by the lawyer Larry Elliot Klayman, indicate as complainant China and its President Xi Jinping plus 'other members of the Chinese Politburo'; the Chinese Army and its Major General Chen Wei; the Wuhan Institute of Virology and its director Shi Zengly. The complain holds China responsible of crimes against humanity in violation of the Rome Treaty, for having unleashed a biological weapon on the rest of the world, with their criminal silence and the repeated attempts to cover the spread of the virus jailing or 'disappearing' doctors and journalists who tried to alert the world. According to jurists, the definition of crimes against humanity in the Rome Treaty fits the way China addressed the Coronavirus outbreak: it was not only mere incompetence, but there have also been willing attempts to suppress informations and knowledge about the virus. According to recent reports, China suppressed in fact not only the presence of the virus but, later, also the real contagions and mortality rates and whitheld vital informations about the genetic sequence of the Wuhan virus. Important to note, because China has been playing hard and widely the card of supposed 'racism' against chinese people every time somebody rightly links the virus to Wuhan, the complain states also that: “This is not a complain against the citizentry of China, that is forced under a dictatorship to live in virtual slavery and have also suffered the criminal actions pled herein”. But the Chinese propaganda machine never stops and never sleeps and become more aggressive with the passing of the weeks and with the growing anger of States and individual for the COVID19 pandemic. Beijing is going out of its way in the desperate attempt of making the world forget that the virus who changed forever the world as we knew it is a Chinese virus and was originated in Wuhan. And it has spread all over the world because China covered up the news for months. The latest diplomatic incident has been registered in Sri Lanka: the local Chinese Embassy held a formal protest against Colombo because they called spade a spade and mentioned the 'chinese virus'. The 'protest' spits venom and arrogance, and follows the usual, now consolidated, lines: praising Beijing for their efforts in helping foreign countries and sharing their expertise in fighting the virus, and accusing the rest of the world of racism. Hilarious note: the Twitter account of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has been suspended, and The Global Times, the notorious Beijing mouthpiece, tweets a protest in the name of 'freedom of speech'. It goes further, again following the usual, consolidated lines accusing once more US and Italy to have given origin to the virus. The Global Times last month, had the audacity to report the words of an Italian researcher, the nephrologist Giuseppe Remuzzi, quoting him to have said the virus might have been originated in Italy. Remuzzi spoke to the Italian daily il Foglio to correct the record, clearly stating his words had been distorted for propaganda purposes. He only mentioned, in fact, that in Italy have been noticed in late November cases of a 'strange' pneumonia, that's all. In November, by the way, China already knew about Corona, the virus was already spreading all over the country, but Xi Jinping was busy not only silencing doctors and journalists but also sending thousand of tourists and businessmen around the globe, pretending everything was normal. The accusations to Italy and US marched, and are marching now all over the world, along with another kind of propaganda. China is desperatly try to 'clean' its image - beside making money out of the virus they spread, since most of the so called 'helps' are in fact business transactions – and assert itself as the next soft-power projecting the country, one of the most undemocratic and authoritative in the world, as a global leader alternative to US.
